You never know what you're going to find

I've still been on my cleaning kick. Maybe it is still the images of watching that show 'Hoarders', or the nice weather, or just finally making myself do it. Yesterday I finished cleaning my closet. In the back were some pictures I hadn't hung up in quite a few years. I pulled them out, decided what was going to Goodwill and what I was for sure keeping. Well, at least for awhile longer anyway.

There was one picture of The Three Stooges. I adore 'Old Hollywood'. As I stood there looking at the Stooges picture ( which was really an old poster), and seeing what bad shape it was in. Small tears and one pretty good sized rip I decided it was time to say goodbye to the 'Boys'.
So, after a moment of silence I finished ripping the poster out of the frame it had been in for close to 30 years. And to my surprise there was an old oil painting behind the 'boys'. Geez, I don't even remember the painting or where it came from.
I have no idea how old this oil painting is or how I came into possession of it. The canvas is really thick and the paint has cracked, but surprisingly the colors are still very nice.

Here is the artists signature. I have tried finding some info on the artist, but am having no luck at all. I'm sure it isn't anyone famous, but knowing who and when it was painted would be really interesting.

For the time being I have put the painting back into the closet. After all, it hasn't seen the light of day in quite a few years. Don't want to shock it too much with sunlight! Heck, I don't even know if I am going to keep it.

Until next time....................

  1. Lucky you!!! I love old stuff like that. You should keep it at least till you find out where it came from. Does it have any local significance? Look familiar? You may want to take it to or email a photo of it to an art historian. You never know.....could be valuable.
