Offended & I don't want to see that!

This morning I had to go to the little store down the road for something I forget when I was in town. As I was standing their paying for the item the gal asked me how all the animals were doing. All doing great I replied.
I then mentioned that I am still trying to find a home for two of the donkeys here. They were rescues and it is time they move on to a permanent home. Anyway, as soon as I said that she looked at me and said, " Donkeys!" And this is what she did next. She very loudly made the hee haw sound. And then she laughed. Well, I took it as she was referring to donkeys as a lot of people do. Making fun of them. That they are stubborn and dumb and good for nothing. That offended me! Rather than set her straight about how wonderful they are, I thanked her and walked out. Although the lady who was next in line did see my reaction ( the right eye half closed, eyebrow raised) and am fairly certain she said something to the gal behind the counter. Maybe I overreacted, but when it comes to animals, well, what can I say.
Now that summer has arrived there is something I just don't understand. Why, oh why, do some men who have big old nasty beer guts and man boobs ( some man boobs are bigger than some womens!) think they look sexy mowing their lawns on their riding mowers without wearing their shirts! I know, I know, to each their own. It is not for me to judge. I can look away ( which you can bet I do!). But when you turn a corner and it is right in front of your face, how can you not notice! Now if a good looking guy is shirtless and is sweet looking eye candy, heck yeah I'll look! Because that is something easy on the eyes!
Okay, I'm done venting. Well, for now anyway!!
Until next time...........................

  1. Hey, try not to let it get to you. There are women jerks out there, usually more catty though. It WAS truly rude.

LOL, Yep, I think men live in a world all their own, no clue that they are repulsive, with the big gut etc, but I think it was Dr. Oz that said the fatter the man the less - ahem.

  2. Omg I get that all the time when I say I work on a Donkey Sanctuary Farm outside of the fence gates, when I wear my staff shirt, you hear people snicker and laugh all the time. People really don't understand what donkeys are all about ,do they? There are still a lot of educating to be done in this world, not just about donkeys but so so many other things.

  3. I think some men become a little 'simple' or blind...or something. There's this pride they seem to have for their gut! The bigger the better. I don't get it.

The cashier....well SHE was being an ASS! And no insult to the donkeys intended.

  4. Well she's obviously ignorant to the fact on how sweet these guys can be. I didn't know myself until I ran into the 7MSN blog, and then some more and some more. I'm totally in love with burros/donkeys now. Hopefully she'll get an education but really, what a stupid reaction to your statement!

And the men on the lawn mowers, OH do I hear you, gag!!!!

  5. Oh man...I got that *all* the time when I had my donkey rescue magnetic sign on the side of our truck. People are just ignorant and they don't understand. I don't think that girl meant to hurt your feelings - she just didn't *think*. Oh, and I *still* get the occasional prank call on my cell from some dolt who thinks it's hilarious to call up and scream that there is a donkey in the middle of the road needing to be rescued.

  6. Yep, I agree with Farmgirl. Most people are just plain ignorant when it comes to creatures.

  7. I've never experienced this donkey bashing before....I can relate though since we daddies have experienced some unsavoury comments and situations over the years...

  8. I'm still chuckling over the man boobs & beer gut! Next time, just try to pretend that he looks like a young, hot Elvis Presley -- a much better visual!

  9. I agree about people who don't understand animals, and I usually educate them. I also agree about guys and their choice of undress. I have to admit I really did LOL!

  10. So very true that so many people don't understand the first thing about donkeys and how wonderful they are. Donkeys have got to be the most misunderstood animal, I think.

LOL about the man guts and boobs. :)

  11. People are just so..uh..clueless. Really, they think they are sooo funny. When I take my sheep to the celtic festival, it is just so dumb how people carry on. If a cow or sheep moo or baa, you'll here people doing the same back. OR heaven forbid an animal has to poop or pee. It's like ooooh looook! giggle giggle snort snort. Geez, people you do it all the time too. Since I raise sheep, I'm super sensitive to the across the board 'sheep are so stupid' comments. Hear allot of that, and as much as I try and 'educate' people all they generally do is smirk. Mostly it's not SHEEP (esp. the primitive shetlands) that are stupid but their handlers or people in general. Rant done! ha..

  12. I didn't know much about donkeys until I ran into 7MSN blog, The Morning Bray Farm blog... but people are so ignorant and the saddest part is they are not even aware of it. I would have set that girl right, I just can't behave when someone offends or hurts or abuses an animal: I always speak up (not that it adds to my popularity:) but I can't be tolerant to people who are intollerant towards animals.. I have tried to be more "civilized and nice" but some people just don't get it that way.

Me, bellies, boobs... I have a clear picture in my mind right now.. no, not a pretty sight!

  14. Girl - you are so funny! I love your rants - you just put it out there. Being a city girl and having found your blog from 7MSN & Morning Bray, I was also unaware of how affectionate donkey/burros could be. I'm totally in love w/them now and want some so bad it hurts!
