Odor

Well, Blogger is not letting me upload pics again. It worked fine when I posted last, but have been trying for several days now and nada! I just don't know what to do about it. I went to Blogger help forum only to find out other bloggers are having the same issues. I sure hope it gets fixed asap. I really wanted to show you my Red Frizzle Bantam chicks. They are really something else.

Now I have a question for all of you. Ever since the irrigation water has been turned on, the house has an odor now. The irrigation canal is about ten feet away from the house and the water is flowing like a creek.  I can't detect a smell from the canal, just inside the house and it is driving me crazy. It is the smell of  old moisture and it is not a pleasant odor. No, there is no water under the house or even directly around it, just in the canal. And the irrigation will run until November 1st.  Oh, the irrigation water is coming straight from the river.

Okay, I do not want to have to smell this odor for that long, so does anyone have any suggestion as to what to use to rid the house of it? I have tried Lysol, Febreeze, etc....  And I really don't want my clothes or furniture having that smell either.

Starting Monday I start watching Grace full time. Her mom finally landed a job in the deli department at the local country store. Hmmmm, Gracie and me, together all day. Who would have thought at my age I would be watching a baby! I already have a game plan going on in my head so I can still get what I need to get done, done, and make it fun for her. She is really going to be a farm girl by the time I am done!

Anyway, again, if anyone has a suggestion as to how to get rid of the odor in the house, please share. Yes, there is wall to wall carpeting.

I have caught up with a few of you on your blogs and am going to catch up with more.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Until next time................

  2. Hi, our basement can get a 'musty' smell to it in the spring and we have a de-humidifier going 24/7 for 12 months of the year. Sounds like the 'smell' might be due to moisture? If so a de-humidifier will address that part.

We also use a 'tea tree' product by Melalauca product called Solumel which will 'mask' the musty smell but not eliminate it.

Also we have used fresh coffee grinds in bowls around the basement....this works too for a while. But it constantly has to be attended to.....just the 'nature of the beast', here anyway.

Of course all the fresh air that you can get in the house may help. But it is weird that the canal water doesn't smell and all this started when it was turned on.

Carpets probably don't help as they will absorb odours and collect moisture too. Good luck with this, it may be something you will have to 'manage' and mask!

  3. I have no clue. Have you determined that the odor is definitely coming from the ditch? Could it be from a drain in your house? (Things like that drive me NUTS! I have been known to crawl around on my hands and knees sniffing around like a dog! Hey, that's something you can do with Gracie!!)

  4. Since a $300 bill from a home inspector is out of the question, you just have to try and find ground zero. It might have started when you started the irrigation, but that may have kittle or nothing to do with it. Like Dreaming said above, you have to sniff it out.
In the mean time, have you tried Ozium. It's available in the auto dept. A little spray goes a long way.

  5. Musty smell is the bane of my existence...I've tried so many things like Jim addressed....can't wait for the moisture to cease and the wind can blow through!
