Disturbing Fashion Trend

About a week or so ago I was watching Good Morning America. There was a segment about the new season of Project Runway. Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Tim Gunn and Michael Kors were there and the audience got to ask them questions. One of the questions for Nina Garcia was what the fashion trend this Fall is.
She hesitated momentarily and said that Fur was 'in'. Real or fake, fur was hot this season.

My reaction was Really? Why? Haven't we as a society learned anything about the horrendous, cruel, barbaric ways of getting fur?

So, this means that thousands and thousands of more animals will be killed just for their fur.

Yesterday evening there was a small article about Janet Jackson who will be wearing mink for some designer. If I remember correctly she used to be against the wearing of fur. And now here it is she is promoting wearing it!

Back in the Golden Age of Hollywood fur was accepted. Mainly due to the fact that not many people knew exactly how the fur was obtained. They didn't care or chose not to want to know. A dark secret. It was luxurious. Made a statement of wealth. Etc...

This whole fur wearing disturbs me greatly. All in the name of fashion! The animals will be killed just for their fur. Just the fur! The meat and other parts of the animal will be thrown away like garbage.
Fur belongs on the animal. Not on us!
Until next time................................

  3. I read about this in a magazine, this new trend, and it makes me sick. And I'd like to add snake, croc and other reptile skins to the outrage as well. I wonder who we think we are sometimes. -- Inger

  4. Yes, it's disgusting. One of my friends runs the Medicine Horse Program. They have rescued foals being shipped to Mexico to become purses. They like bay or black foals with no white for purses. Revolting.

  5. I can't add a word to that. Thank you for saying what so many of us feel.

  6. I've never even worn fake fur such as a collar on a coat because I don't want to wear anything that could be mistaken for real fur. I think a lot of those celebrity, rich people are mentally ill. If they could just embrace living a simple life, living in harmony with Mother Earth, gosh they'd be so much happier.

  7. Well, you know what will stop all this. We have to let EVERYONE know of our disapproval by writing blogs like this and directly to the fashion houses. There was a time when they listened. Time has passed and people are more complacent than ever. Time to wake them up again.
    Good blog....thanks.

  8. I find this so sad, I thought humans were evolving towards being more compassionate and thoughtful.

I wish people would watch a documentary called 'the Witness', in fact I think you can watch it free on the website. I am sure if people could see what really happens to these animals, they would be so disgusted that it would change their perception for the rest of their life.

  9. I couldn't agree more. You showed beautiful examples of fur, and they are exactly where they belong.

  10. I totally agree with you, Cindy. My dear mother, God rest her soul, had a prized mink coat that she probably wore 10 times (we lived in Louisiana). When she died, that coat became mine. I couldn't bring myself to sell it and gain profit, so I donated it to a wildlife sanctuary so they could cut it up and use pieces to comfort their orphaned babies. When I had it appraised for tax purposes, the report stated the coat had been made from 30 male minks. I was appalled and very saddened to learn this fact...30 little lives sacrificed for fashion!

  11. So sad. I agree with pinkglitterfae, I thought we were evolving to care more about the planet and each other. Maybe not so much... All in the name of fashion.

    Love your fur pictures!

  12. I made my comment where there were pictures only... I can't believe it someone wants to wear fur. They should be forced to see how their fashion coat is obtained... I made myself watch a video of how animals are skinned alive in China... I usually cry in silence, but when I saw that my whole body ached and I cried so loudly I was afraid my neighbors would come to check on me. This is just too sad.

  13. I also watched that video of animals skinned alive and then thrown in piles without any skin -- still alive -- until they eventually died. It was the most HORRIFIC thing I've ever seen. I don't know how participants of that type of cruelty sleep at night.... The video still haunts me, and I've seen lots of graphic stuff working in animal rescue. I agree with not wearing fake fur, too, because -- even though it is fake -- it sends the same message, in my opinion. We as the human race have failed somewhere when we continue to let this type of unchecked cruelty still exist in our society. Cindy - great fur pics from your animals. The ONLY place fur belongs is on its original owner.
