Coons and Cats and Birds

Last night Mama Coon and her three pretty good sized babies came up to have dinner ( cat food). When I walked to the screen door she growled at me! Um, really!! In the years I have lived here not one coon has ever growled. So, I stood there. She kept growling. I kept standing there. She kept growling. On and on it went for a little while. She wasn't going to leave and neither was I! Finally she walked off growling the whole time. Ha Ha, I won!!!! In the background of the picture you'll see two white dots. Those are the eyes of one her babies.
This afternoon I had to go to town and as I was walking out the door what do I see? A cat with this bird. Geez, not again. Yup, chased the cat away, finally grabbed the bird, put it in a box, into the bathroom and off to town I went.

Came home, checked on the bird, yup, still very much alive. Alright then, time to go back outside. Hmmm, where to turn it loose in case it doesn't fly off and I can catch it again without cats around. Hmmmm. Okay, the backyard it is.

Thankfully as soon as I opened the box all the way out flew the bird. Thank you little bird!

It has been cloudy and kind of rainy. Yay!!!! I'll take this weather over those baking triple digits any day.

Until next time........................

Visitor

"Hey, come over here. Want to see something you haven't seen before?"
"Okay, I'll take a look. What is that?"

"Hey I want to look too. What in the world is that out there?"

"Don't be alarmed. It's just me."

We haven't had any raccoons for some time now and was very pleased to see that one is back.
Now that I know the coon ( s) are back, I'll keep an extra special eye on the chickens. The food in the pan is for the outside cats and well, for the coons too.

Yesterday I had writers block really bad and couldn't think of anything remotely interesting to talk about. Unless you wanted to hear about the humdrum daily chores! :)
I almost forgot to let you know where I got the blacklight flashlight. Amazon for about $7.00.
Until next time......................................

Wildlife

Lately I have been going through pictures and organizing them. For today's post I'd like to share just a few of the pics of the wildlife up close that have been taken ove the past few years. When we first moved in, a lone raccoon started coming up to the front door and eating the cat food. He got so used to us that he started sleeping in the hay barn. Then one day I noticed he was bleeding pretty bad from his hip. I think he was shot. He seemed to recover and he was doing good. A few months later I noticed he wasn't around anymore. I found him in the back of the hay barn. He had passed away.
This is a pic of a mama raccoon who would bring her babies up to eat cat food. Surprisingly she was okay with me standing there watching her. Haven't seen her in quite awhile now.

There are a couple of ponds across the road and there are a lot of Canadian geese there. Every now and then they land in our back pasture.

Somehow this pretty little hummingbird got into the sun room. Tried to shoo him out thought the sliding door, but he just wouldn't go. So I grabbed a window washer squeegee, held it up and he landed on it! Surprised the heck out of me. Glad I had the camera with me.

Until next time..........................
